Parts Needed: 10mm socket on extension, 13mm or ½ inch socket,
13mm or ½ inch wrench,
Pliers
Oxygen sensor socket, vise grip, or channel lock pliers,
Breaker bar,
Penetrating oil (Deep Creep, WD-40 etc.),
Anti-seize |
|
| 1. |
Securely support the car on 4 jack stands.
|
| 2. |
Disconnect the oxygen sensors’ wiring connectors in the engine bay. The connectors should be found on the left side of the intake manifold behind the cylinder head. A small flathead screwdriver is useful to help disconnect the red part. |
|
| 3. |
Remove the bypass valve and dump tube from the intake system
|
 |
| 4. |
Remove the heat shield from the exhaust manifold (if applicable) |
 |
| 5. |
Remove the three nuts that hold the front exhaust pipe to the turbo. Some penetrating oil may be necessary here to avoid breaking a stud. |
| 6. |
From under the car, remove the band clamp that connects the front exhaust pipe to the midpipe. |
 |
| 7. |
Be sure the oxygen sensor wires are free from the engine bay, and remove the rubber hangers that attach the front exhaust pipe to the car. |
| 8. |
Remove the front exhaust pipe from the car and soak the oxygen sensor mountings in penetrating oil. |
| 9. |
Remove the two remaining band clamps from the rest of the exhaust system. One holds the midpipe to the resonator pipe, the other holds the resonator pipe to the muffler/tailpipe section. |

 |
| 10. |
Disconnect the rubber hangers from the muffler/tailpipe section and remove it.
|
| 11. |
Disconnect the rubber hangers from the resonator pipe section and remove it. The midpipe should also be removed at this time. |
| 12. |
Install the MP Performance muffler/tailpipe section on the stock rubber hangers. Vehicle variations and age deformation of the rubber may result in some adjustment to the hangers to fit the pipe properly. |
 |
| 13. |
Remove the oxygen sensor(s) from the stock front exhaust section. Depending on age and mileage, this may require a breaker bar and a dedicated sensor socket. Be very careful not to damage the sensor wires. |
| 14. |
Using a small amount of anti-seize on the threads, re-install the oxygen sensor(s) into the MP Performance front pipe (being careful to put the front one in front, etc.)
|
| 15. |
Loosely install the front exhaust section to the turbo. Do not tighten the nuts yet.
|
| 16. |
Swing the other end of the front pipe up to install the rubber hangers
|
| 17. |
Loosely bolt the MP Performance midpipe to the bend pipe with a gasket between the flanges.
|
 |
| 18. |
Loosely install the MP Performance midpipe/bend pipe combination with gaskets at each end. Install the rubber hangers. Install, but do not tighten the bolts at each end yet. |
 |
| 19. |
Tighten the turbo connection sequentially. Tighten each nut a couple turns until they are all tight. Tightening one fully before the other two will bend the seating surface of the pipe and it will not seal.
|
| 20. |
Tighten the muffler/midpipe section flanges sequentially.
|
| 21. |
Tighten the front/midpipe section flanges sequentially.
|
| 22. |
Reconnect the oxygen sensor(s) to the wiring harness in the engine bay.
|
| 23. |
Re-install the heat shield, bypass valve and dump tube.
|
| 24. |
Lower the car and start it. The machine grease and welding remnants will burn off the inside of the exhaust, do not be alarmed by any burning smells.
|
| 25. |
Take the car out and enjoy the new sound and power. |
